PVC cable cover (protective tile) for underground cable protection – ENEL DS4230 series

GENERAL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The ash-grey PVC material is resistant to chemical agents commonly found in the soil (saline water, hydrocarbons). The cable covers feature a virtually constant thickness across their entire cross-section; the ribs must be positioned at least 20 mm from the edges. The cable covers are equipped with an interlocking system designed to
pass the tests specified in ENEL standard 4831. This interlocking system must be integral to the unit (requiring no additional components) and must allow for a
continuous deviation of the installation axis of at least 30° while maintaining the overlap of the ends of two adjacent elements; under standard straight-line
installation conditions, the overlap must be between 50 and 60 mm.

CABLE COVER (PROTECTIVE TILE) USAGE

Cables are typically laid above conduits (cable ducts) or directly into the ground within an open trench on a prepared bedding layer.
In both installation scenarios, the following is required:
• additional mechanical protection (cable duct or synthetic resin element); • a warning tape (bearing the inscription “ENEL CAVI ELETTRICI” / “ENEL ELECTRIC CABLES”)
In this regard, the correct positioning of these two elements is crucial to prevent accidental contact with or damage to the cables during work performed in their vicinity. Supplementary cable protection is not required in the following cases:
• MV cables laid at a depth greater than 1.7 m
• LV cables laid at a depth greater than 0.5 m, provided they are of the concentric neutral type with solid extruded insulation made of G7-type ethylene-propylene rubber or cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).

MAIN APPLICATIONS

The following types of cable ducting/conduit arrangements are specified:
• Type A: depth from 0.6 to 1.00 m
• Type B: depth from 1.00 to 1.40 m
• Reduced depth: depth from 0.40 to 0.50 m
Type B installations are intended for public roads, where the new Highway Code mandates a minimum depth of 1 m from the top of the cable assembly. Type A installations are intended for private roads and all other areas, where the minimum depths established by the CEI 11-17 standard apply. Reduced-depth installations are permitted only in exceptional cases upon specific request by ENEL.
