PE100 PIPES FOR HIGH TEMPERATURE DUCTING SYSTEMS WITH NF MARK

In October of 2022 CENTRALTUBI S.p.A. obtained the NF (French) mark on PE100 HT pipes complying with the NF114 regulation for “group 5” (TUBES EN POLYETHYLENE POUR CONFINEMENT DE TRANSPORT D’ELECTRICITE), i.e. pipes intended for the construction of cable ducting systems for the distribution of electricity, in the diameter range from 140 to 250 mm for SDR 26 – 21 – 17 – 13.6 – 11 – 9 – 7.4 (NF GROUP 5 CABLE CROSSING CERTIFICATE).

These pipes are specifically required on the French market for medium and high voltage cable routing, which operate at fairly high standard temperatures (up to 100°C), sometimes with higher peaks in emergency conditions. These pipes are required with co-extrusion bands in red and made in a double line, to distinguish them from all other products.

The NF114 regulation almost entirely follows the EN 12201 standard for pressurised water transport systems with a few differences, the most significant of which are two: one relating to the minimum requirements for the OIT (Oxidation Induction Time) test and another for the addition of a THERMAL DURABILITY test, still experimental, at 110°C for a duration of 18 months, carried out according to NF EN ISO 21003-2 on the raw material, and therefore by the manufacturer of the same. In fact, the use of a raw material approved by the NF is required for the production of this product. The above-mentioned regulation provides for the possibility of using only PE100 (with RC characteristics) or PE100 RT (Raised Temperature), mentioned by the NF as “HT” (High Temperature). The use of PE80 and regenerated materials is therefore not permitted. At the end of temperature conditioning for the specified service life, tensile elongation tests are carried out on test specimens taken from the pipe, where the requirement is a performance decay ≤ 25% of the initial (pre-conditioning) performance, so as to ensure a limited degree of mechanical decay of the PE in the long term at the test conditions.
